1. Who We Are

Electric State (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Electric State app and website at electricstate.app. We build tools for electronic music fans to discover festivals, follow artists, and track their experiences.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account info: Email address and password when you sign up.
  • Profile info: Username, display name, bio, and avatar you choose to add.
  • Activity: Festivals you save, artists you follow, stamps you earn, and XP activity.
  • Location: Approximate location (if you grant permission) to surface nearby festivals and enable geo-based notifications.
  • Device token: Push notification token to deliver alerts about artists and events you follow.
  • Usage data: Standard server logs including IP address, browser/device type, and pages visited.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate your account and provide app features.
  • To send push notifications about artists and festivals you follow.
  • To show your public passport profile to other users (if you have one).
  • To improve the app through aggregate usage analytics.
  • To respond to support requests.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Data Sharing

We use the following third-party services to operate the app:

  • Supabase — database and authentication hosting.
  • Firebase (Google) — push notification delivery.
  • Vercel — web hosting and infrastructure.
  • Stripe — payment processing (for ticket purchases, if applicable).
  • Spotify — artist metadata and images (read-only, no account access).
  • YouTube (Google) — one embedded video per artist, festival, or venue page. See section 6.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data necessary for them to operate.

5. Connecting Spotify

Connecting your Spotify account is entirely optional. If you connect it, we request read-only access to the artists you follow and your most-played artists. We use that list for one purpose: matching those artists against event lineups so we can show you which festivals fit your taste.

We store the names of matched artists on your Electric State profile as artists you follow. We do not store your listening history, playlists, saved tracks, or Spotify password, and we do not post anything to your Spotify account. We do not sell Spotify data, share it with third parties, or use it to train machine learning models.

You can disconnect at any time, which stops any further import. Artists already added stay on your profile and you can unfollow them individually. Spotify does not sponsor, endorse, or certify Electric State. Your use of Spotify remains subject to Spotify's own privacy policy.

6. YouTube API Services

Electric State uses YouTube API Services to find one public video for each artist, festival, and venue page, such as a DJ set, live performance, or official aftermovie. The video plays in YouTube's embedded player, so your use of that player is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

What we collect through the API: nothing about you. Our requests to YouTube contain only the name of the artist, festival, or venue being searched. We never ask for access to your YouTube or Google account, and we do not send your personal data, location, or activity to YouTube.

What we store: for each search we keep the returned video id, title, and channel name so we do not repeat the same request. These records are not linked to any user, expire after 30 days (the video is looked up afresh the next time the page is viewed), and are never sold, shared, or used for anything other than showing the video on the page it belongs to.

The embedded player: we load videos from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which means YouTube does not store information about you unless you play the video. Once you press play, YouTube may set cookies and collect data as described in the Google Privacy Policy. Because we never request access to your Google account, there is nothing to revoke; if you have granted other apps access, you can review that at Google security settings. Questions about our use of YouTube data can be sent to the contact address at the end of this policy.

7. Location Data

Location access is optional. If granted, we use your approximate location to surface nearby festivals and send geo-relevant notifications. We do not share your precise location with third parties or store it beyond what is needed for notification delivery.

8. Push Notifications

If you enable push notifications, we store your device token to deliver alerts. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings. Disabling does not delete your account.

9. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, activity, and associated data within 30 days. Some anonymized aggregate data may be retained for analytics.

10. Your Rights

You can at any time:

  • Update or delete your profile information in the app.
  • Delete your account at electricstate.app/account-deletion.
  • Request a copy of your data by contacting us.
  • Opt out of push notifications in your device settings.

11. Children's Privacy

Electric State is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. We'll update the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
