About Tomorrowland
The year the mainstage burned down and the festival opened anyway. Orbyz — a frozen crystal world two years in the design — was destroyed by fire on 16 July, 48 hours before gates, after an ethanol leak during flame-effect testing. Nobody was hurt. Tomorrowland airlifted rig elements from Metallica's tour in Austria and built a replacement mainstage in 36 hours, opening on time on 18 July. The bill underneath it was enormous regardless: over 500 acts across two weekends, Charlotte de Witte and I Hate Models alongside Swedish House Mafia and David Guetta.
